I will be displaying two paintings as part of a group show at Marquette High School in Michigan City, Indiana. The show opens the first Friday of the month and runs through September.

Abstract painting is just that. It is the discovery of the self, and the subconscious and provides an insight into an unseen world. I am an abstract expressionist / action painter. Painting non-objectively with no preconceived ideas most of the time is my approach to painting. However, there are times I visualize colors and what I wish to paint, but often the direction taken will emerge spontaneously as I paint. I do not make sketches or drawings and proceed directly to the canvass.
Since I love nature and wildlife, much of my work will reflect that. Most of the time I work on the floor preferring that to an easel. This is liberating as I am able to walk around the painting and work from all angles. In this way, I become part of the canvass. Images come forth as I paint and these come from the inner self or the subconscious. The rhythm and motion of action painting is intriguing but it is important to understand space and balance and, finally, to know when to stop. My work takes on a life of its own and this is what I strive for and what I would consider a completed and harmonious work. I consider my painting finished when it makes sense to me.
